Three Iconic Characters Samuel L. Jackson Would Love To Play Again
With the long and impressive filmography that he has, Samuel L. Jackson has had numerous opportunities to play certain characters more than once. In recent years, he's been appeared as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and starting this weekend, you can hear him reprising Frozone in Incredibles 2, which arrives 14 years after The Incredibles came out. But Jackson has some other characters in mind that he'd like to revisit at some point, so when CinemaBlend's own Eric Eisenberg asked the actor who he'd like to bring back, this was his response:
Mitch Hennessy, [The] Long Kiss Goodnight. Mace Windu, Star Wars. Ordell from Jackie Brown.
Of these three characters, Mace Windu is the only one who Samuel L. Jackson has already played several times, as he was one of the key Jedi players in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Granted, Mace looked to have died in Revenge of the Sith when he was electrocuted and then tossed out a window by Darth Sidious. But perhaps reports of his demise were greatly exaggerated, and Jackson could portray him in a post-Revenge of the Sith story, whether it's in live action or an animated project (regarding the latter, remember how they brought Darth Maul back for The Clone Wars and Rebels). Jackie Brown's Ordell also met a messy end, though I doubt that Quentin Tarantino has any plans to revisit that character in a prequel story. Mitch Hennessy, however, made it out of The Long Kiss Goodbye intact, but there's been no word in over a decade on if a sequel will move forward.
Fortunately for Samuel L. Jackson, he's reprising several of his more well-known characters next year. First, he'll play Elijah Glass, a.k.a. Mr. Glass, in Glass, revisiting the antagonist nearly two decades after the release of Unbreakable. Then he'll step back into Nick Fury's shoes for Captain Marvel, only this time, he's playing Fury in the 1990s before he lost his eye. Finally, he'll return as John Shaft II in Son of Shaft, which sees him alongside his uncle, the original Shaft, played by Richard Roundtree, and his son, John Shaft III, played by Jessie Usher.
