First Look At Michael Myers Coming For Laurie Strode In New Halloween Movie

On October 31, 1978, he came home. Now, forty years after the release of John Carpenter's original Halloween, the terrifying Michael Myers will return to Haddonfield, Illinois for one more showdown with Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode. There's quite a bit of fan anticipation to see what Stronger director David Gordon Green does with the franchise when Blumhouse's Halloween debuts on October 19, and our excitement is only enhanced by a first-look at Michael bursting through a door to get Laurie. Check out the new image, below.

Some things never change, and four decades and a few bullet wounds have not diminished Michael's immense strength. We don't have much context for that image in terms of plot points, but it's clear that Michael is going to get up close and personal with Laurie in the Halloween reboot. The former babysitter tries her best to barricade the door and keep him at bay, but he can punch his hand through the glass to reach her if he has to. That said, as USA Today points out in this image, Laurie has changed quite a bit in the years since he first tried to kill her, and she's more ready than ever.

Of course, this raises questions about how much damage Michael will sustain throughout the movie. One of the more significant fan discussions that have taken place in the months leading up to the release of this new take on Halloween is the question of whether or not Michael will be genuinely immortal in the film. Michael became increasingly durable and unkillable as the franchise moved forward over the years, but with Halloween apparently ignoring every single one of the sequels, we will have to wait and see how much the classic slasher bleeds when he punches through the glass.

One other thing worth noting about this look at the showdown between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers is how much it harkens back to a classic moment from the original movie. Specifically, the image of Michael's hand bursting through a door feels decidedly reminiscent of the sequence from the original in which the masked killer (played by Nick Castle in the first film) punches his way through a door to get to Laurie -- who then, in turn, has to punch her way through a glass window to get out of the house. You can take a look at that sequence from the original, below.

Audiences will finally get a chance to see that showdown between Laurie and Michael later this year when Blumhouse's Halloween debuts in theaters on October 19. The film's trailer will debut this Friday, so keep an eye out for more updates!

Ahead of Friday's trailer, check out a first look at Michael Myers in Halloween as well as Jamie Lee Curtis who returns as his sister, Laurie Strode. Jason Blum, of Blumhouse Productions, is onboard the new movie as a producer and confirmed the Friday release of the Halloween trailer on social media.

Thor Could Have Had A Very Different Journey In Avengers: Infinity War

Thor Could Have Had A Very Different Journey In Avengers: Infinity War

Having already lost his father, hammer and home world during Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War didn't give Thor that long to catch his breath, as the movie opened with Thanos and his forces slaughtering half of the survivors from Asgard, including Loki and Heimdall. These events set Thor on the path to seek vengeance against the Mad Titan, which resulted in him gaining Stormbreaker, a more powerful weapon to replace Mjolnir. However, originally Infinity War had Thor finding Stormbreaker rather than building it.

It's been nearly seven full months since Avengers: Infinity War was released, and the new book, Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War - The Art of the Movie, is packed with concept art showing what could have been. For instance, as noted by Senior Visual Development Artist Rodney Fuentebella in the book (via Screen Rant), Thor, Rocket Raccoon and Groot originally set out to find Stormbreaker in what looks like the corpse of a giant creature underground.

Other images show the trio landing on a barren planet that doesn't look anything like Nidavellir, as well Thor, wielding Stormbreaker, and Rocket Raccoon battling a giant monster. While these sequences of events surely would have been exciting in their own way, Avengers: Infinity War ultimately decided to go in a different direction by having Stormbreaker be constructed rather than a prize to be found.

While Thor: Ragnarok showed Thor gaining full control over his lightning abilities, he still needed a little extra power if he was going to clash with Thanos a second time. After meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy, the God of Thunder set out with Rocket Raccoon and Groot to Nidavellir, home of the weapon-constructing dwarves. Unfortunately, all but the Dwarf King Eitri had been killed by Thanos after they forged the Mad Titan his Infinity Gauntlet. Adding insult to injury, Thanos also fused off Eitri's hands.

Despite Eitri's initial hesitance, Thor convinced the dwarf to help him build a new weapon, which required re-igniting the true Nidavellir, a dying neutron star, so that the forge could be powered. Thor nearly died making this happen, but thanks to Groot using his own arm as an improvised handle, Stormbreaker was created. The axe revived Thor, and thanks to its ability to channel dimensional energy to create a Bifrost bridge, Thor, Rocket Raccoon and Groot were able to travel to Earth instantly and help turn the tide in the Battle of Wakanda.

Sadly, while Stormbreaker was indeed powerful enough to hurt Thanos, Thor made the mistake of hitting the Mad Titan in the chest rather than decapitating him. Thanos snapped his fingers, and with the power of the six Infinity Stones, he wiped out half of all life in the universe. Thor was part of the lucky half that survived, meaning he could still conceivably kill Thanos if the right opportunity presents itself. Whether or not that will happen in Avengers 4 remains to be seen.

Avengers 4 opens in theaters on May 3, 2019, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more news on that front. If you're curious about what else the MCU has coming up, look through our handy guide.

Marvel's The Eternals Is Adding Angelina Jolie

Marvel's The Eternals Is Adding Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie is no stranger to big action movie roles, with Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Wanted being some of the most significant titles on her resume, and it looks like she is now ready to join her first superhero franchise - specifically the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to new reports, the actress is now in talks to join the cast of The Eternals, albeit in an unknown role.

This news comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter, which sadly doesn't have a ton of info about the film beyond the fact that Angelina Jolie is now signing up to be a part of it. The project is set up to be directed by Chloe Zhao (The Rider), and it is said that the story will be a centuries-spanning romance that centers on the titular near-immortal beings and their monstrous genetic relatives, the Deviants. The two lead characters will be the cosmic energy-powered Ikaris, and the powerful sorceress Sersi - though it's unclear if either of these roles will ultimately belong to Jolie.

Given her stature in the movie industry both as an actor and as a director, rumors have been swirling around for years connecting Angelina Jolie to superhero film projects. One of the most prominent stories that stuck around for a while was the idea that she was on the short list to potentially helm Captain Marvel, but obviously that gig wound up going to Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. We'll just have to wait and see what it was about The Eternals that made Jolie want to be a part of the franchise.

What adds yet another layer of mystique to this development is the fact that Angelina Jolie doesn't really do a ton of live-action performing anymore. Later this year we will get to see her back up on the big screen in the sequel Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil, but it will be the first time we've seen her in the medium since 2015's By The Sea. Her career has been much more focused on the directing side of things, so it makes one wonder about the particular allure of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (assuming that it's more than money). She does have six children between the ages of 10 and 17, so it's entirely possible that The Eternals is a film she wants to make because her kids are fans of the brand.

Right now the state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's future is a bit hazy, as Marvel Studios isn't announcing any official plans until this summer. That being said, it's been reported that The Eternals could be going into production some time later this year, meaning that it could wind up with one of the three 2020 release dates that the franchise currently has carved out. If that's the case, it's very likely that we will be hearing more casting reports soon, so stay tuned here on CinemaBlend for all the latest updates.
