Why The Black Panther Best Original Song Nominee Won't Be Performed At The Oscars

Did you think that this Sundays Academy Awards ceremony was all figured out and locked down? Oh my sweet summer child, there are still a few days to go and as weve seen, this years Oscars are a constant work in progress. Today brings with it a bit of bummer news: Best Original Song nominee All the Stars from Black Panther will not be performed at the ceremony, but its not for the reason you probably think.

With all the efforts the Academy has made to try and reduce the runtime of the ceremony to help ratings, you might think that All the Stars was being cut for time, but that is not the case here. The Oscars were trying to get the song from Kendrick Lamar, Sounwave, Anthony Triffith and SZA to be a part of the show, but it simply came down to scheduling.

According to Deadline, Kendrick Lamar has reportedly been abroad, and after the Oscar nominations came out, there simply wasnt enough time for him to put together a performance that would do the song justice at the Oscars. They tried to make it work, but ultimately couldnt. Kendrick Lamar also couldnt perform at his years Grammys because he was working overseas.

It wouldnt make much sense to perform the song without Kendrick Lamar or to have someone else sub in for him, like Bette Midler is doing for Mary Poppins Returns The Place Where Lost Things Go. Moreover, the other All the Stars artists like SZA naturally did not want to perform the song without Kendrick Lamar. So a decision was reached between the Oscars and the Grammy winners team that there will be no performance of the song at Sundays ceremony.

This is surprising news considering that All the Stars seemed like one of the original song nominees that was guaranteed to be performed, along with A Star is Borns Shallow. Earlier this year, it seemed that, in an effort to shorten the broadcast, only those two Best Original Song nominees would be performed.

That naturally led to backlash and the decision was reversed to have all the nominees performed. Now that number has been cut by one and only the songs from Mary Poppins Returns, A Star is Born, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and RBG will be performed. On the bright side, this should shave off a few minutes from the broadcast.

Its a bit of a bummer that we wont hear All the Stars on Sunday night, but at least the Academy tried to make it happen, and thats commendable. I think if we were going to hear it, we would have wanted Kendrick Lamar to be there, so better to omit it entirely than deliver a performance all involved felt wouldnt live up to the song itself.

Deadpool 2 Had Another Hidden X-Men Character You Totally Missed

It's been a big year for superhero movies, as filmmakers challenge what the genre is capable of. One of the most original comic book franchises is Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool, which broke records and expectations when it debuted back in 2016. Deadpool 2 finally arrived a few months ago, bringing the Merc with The Mouth back to the silver screen, alongside X-Men characters new and old. In addition to the ill-fated members of the X-Force and Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, there were also classic X-Men characters present during Wade's stint in prison. While Black Tom Cassidy was the main antagonist in that sequence, it turns out there's more Marvel legends we didn't notice. Case in point: Omega Red. And there's photo proof he was in Deadpool 2 as well. Check it out.

Now that Deadpool 2 has been out for months and is therefore void of real spoilers, makeup designer Bill Corso has shared some of his work on the acclaimed sequel. And while we didn't get to see Omega Red speak or use his mutant abilities (damn those mutant collars), these photos help further expand 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise, albeit subtly.

Around a quarter into the runtime of Deadpool 2, Wade Wilson ends up arrested for killing one of Firefist's abusers at his orphanage. The Merc with the Mouth is all too happy to kill his enemies, but that doesn't fly with the code of the X-Men. This lands Deadpool in a prison known as Ice Box, which is a special prison made for mutants. Enter Omega Red, who was one of the many background characters featured in the prison, and the riot which eventually ensues thanks to Josh Brolin's Cable. Now if only we got to see him really kick ass and take names. Fingers crossed for the X-Force movie.

In the comics, Omega Red is a mutant villain that often clashes with the X-Men and other Marvel characters. Born in Russia, Omega Red is a serial killer with enhanced abilities that make shim especially deadly. These powers include superhuman strength, durability, endurance, and speed. A genius level intellect with hand to hand combat skills, Omega Red is most known for his retractive tentacles that are within his arms. These are his main weapon of choice, as he can absorb the energy of his victims, in addition to slaying them with his myriad abilities.

We'll just have to wait for Deadpool 2's home release to see if there is more footage of Omega Red that we might have missed when seeing the film in theaters. Deadpool 2 will be available for home purchase on August 21st, 2018. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

Time travel is heavily rumored to play a big part in Avengers: Endgame and a new fan theory is taking that idea one step further. Getting the marketing involved in all this, the fan theorizes that the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War actually contains scenes that will be in Endgame, rationalizing that the little variations are actually a result of time travel. Here's the theory:

Even after one trailer, one Super Bowl TV spot, and only 82 days left until the movie premieres, there is still shockingly little information about Avengers: Endgame. Promotional materials are slowly making their way online, but before the marketing push really takes effect, Marvel fans are coming up with their own theories to keep themselves busy.

The latest one offers an interesting perspective. With the Avengers speculated to turn to time travel as a means to reverse the damage done to the universe by Thanos, one fan proposes that we've already seen the results of this time tampering.

As the theorist speculates on Reddit, the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War has references to scenes that don't show up in the actual movie. For example, Thanos only has the Power and Space Stones on Titan in the trailer when at that point in the film he had four Infinity Stones. There's also the infamous shot of the Avengers and the army of Wakanda running through a forest towards the camera, and that never made its way into the movie.

The fan believes that all of these scenes may be in Endgame as examples of how the Avengers are changing history by time traveling. Maybe Thanos will only end of with two stones during the fight on Titan because the Avengers stop him from gaining the other two.

I'm all for a fan theory, and this one has an interesting perspective, but I think it's over-thinking things a bit much. For starters, lots of blockbuster trailers have scenes that don't make it into the movie. Rogue One is an infamous example of this. Sometimes, studios will film shots for the sole purpose of putting them in the trailer -- something Marvel has done on occasion. Marvel, in particular, will alter shots with CGI so as not to give away spoilers.

Also, this theory somewhat implies that we'll be seeing some scenes from Infinity War all over again, which seems unlikely. If you have access to time travel, it's more entertaining to visit other past Marvel films than the one everyone saw only a year ago. Additionally, the idea that the Avengers are trying to change history by making really tiny changes like waiting slightly longer to join a fight is boring.

We're all chomping our fingernails in anticipation of Avengers: Endgame and we don't have that much longer to wait. Endgame is all set to arrive in theaters on April 26. To learn more about the film, here's what we know so far.

In the trailer, it's a very dark scene, where you only see Cap's silhouette, but in the movie he's much more fully lit. Of course, in Infinity War, there's a huge window behind him with street lights shining through the glass, so it makes sense he'd be illuminated there.
