Shazam! Director Is Dying to Know Ant-Man's Fate In Avengers: Endgame

At the end of the recent, eagerly anticipated trailer for Avengers: Endgame, Paul Rudd's Scott Lang appears at Avengers headquarters, having somehow escaped from the Quantum Realm he found himself trapped in during the end-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp. We all want to know what's going on with Ant-Man, including apparently DC's Shazam! director David F. Sandberg. Take a look:

Like the rest of us (i.e. the world), David F. Sandberg is dying to know how Ant-Man got out of the Quantum Realm to wind up on the Avengers' doorstep. In fact, the DC director wants to know so much, Avengers: Endgame is the first movie he wants to watch in order to relax after the pressure and hustle and bustle of Shazam!'s release in April.

It's funny because I don't think many of us would cite Avengers: Endgame as the movie to watch in order to unwind. Other than the Ant-Man stinger at the end, the trailer for the film was emotional and bleak. It was also stressful and seemed way more likely to induce sweaty palms than feelings of relaxation. Although what David F. Sandberg is saying is that he simply can't relax until he has seen Avengers: Endgame and finds out Ant-Man's fate.

That's an understandable sentiment, as we are all eager to find out not only Ant-Man's fate but the fates of all of the MCU characters, alive and dead in the Phase 3 finale film. There really is no relaxing until we know what happens with Ant-Man, Cap, Hawkeye and all the rest and staving off death until we know is of paramount importance.

David F. Sandberg's response on Twitter shows that despite being the director of a DC film, he is as much a fan of the MCU and invested in its characters and storylines as the rest of us. He just likes to have a little bit of fun with the competition, like his recent post throwing shade at Captain Marvel, whose heroine bears the same name Shazam once did.

We don't know how exactly Scott Lang gets out of the Quantum Realm, whether its by using his own Ant-Man powers and the properties of the realm itself, or if Captain Marvel saves him along with possibly Tony, or something else entirely. But the fact that the trailer for Avengers: Endgame showed us that he does get out seems significant.

By putting Scott Lang, who wasn't in Avengers: Infinity War, at the end of the trailer, that would seem to indicate the he and how he got out of the Quantum Realm will play an important part in the endgame to defeat Thanos and bring back those snapped out of existence in the Decimation.

Why Sean Penn Doesn't Enjoy Acting Anymore

When you think of actors with a capital 'A', Sean Penn is one of the names that comes to mind. The veteran actor, known for serious roles in films like Mystic River and Milk has two Oscars and five nominations to his name. So you would think that he couldn't be happier doing something artistic at which he's talented. But it turns out that Sean Penn doesn't really enjoy acting anymore and struggles to find the importance of it. He laid out his feelings about this, saying:

It can be great when you're working with good actors or good directors or good writing as an exercise. But, do I have a belief that it has a lasting value? Maybe, I could make the argument intellectually. But I don't have a visceral -- I'm not in love with that anymore.

Say it ain't so, Jeff Spicoli. This is kind of a troubling thing to hear from the actor who has been a part of the industry for so long. Previewing his interview with CBS' Sunday Morning, CBS News highlighted that Sean Penn has felt this way for some time. The way he describes his feelings, it sounds like he can see the merit in working with talented people and can even take something positive from the experience, but he doesn't really love it. It seems like he almost has to talk himself into gleaning something from acting nowadays, and the enjoyment and passion for it doesn't come naturally.

Sean Penn also seems to be questioning whether or not acting is actually making a positive impact. The actor has become increasingly known for his political activism and philanthropic efforts in recent years, so it's not surprising that he is looking at his work through this lens and trying to see if it is making a difference in a world with so many ills. But just because he no longer loves movies doesn't mean that Sean Penn has no joy in life. The actor is promoting his new novel Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff that comes out on March 27. In addition to coming up with weird titles, the actor has said that he enjoys writing. Now, because this is Sean Penn we're talking about here, he writes in longhand, not on a computer, which I'm sure is a blast for his editor.

It's not clear if Sean Penn is officially done acting or will simply be doing less of it as time goes on. Those still hoping to see the actor on screen can look forward to The Professor and the Madman, starring Sean Penn, Natalie Dormer, Mel Gibson and Ioan Gruffudd, due out later this year. He is also expected to have a part in House of Cards creator Beau Willimon's Hulu series The First. If Sean Penn does officially retire from acting, Daniel Day-Lewis style, the industry will miss him. While not everyone's cup of tea, the actor gives committed performances. You also can't begrudge someone for retiring from something that doesn't make them happy in order to pursue something that does.





Even Cable's co-creator Rob Liefeld got into the mix. Back in February 2017, Liefeld tweeted to actor Russell Crowe, saying that he should read for the part of Cable, who would be in both Deadpool 2 and X-Force .

Toy Story 4 Super Bowl Trailer Puts Buzz Lightyear In A Tight Spot

Back in November we got to see two weird first trailers for Toy Story 4 - the first introducing us to a spork named Forky (Tony Hale) who doesn't want to be a toy; and the second giving us our first glimpse at Jordan Peele and Keegan Michael-Key's characters, Bunny and Ducky. Now Disney has chosen to celebrate the Super Bowl for the third time tonight, following up new Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel spots with a brand new look at the next animated feature from the folks at Pixar:

There's a lot to talk about with this trailer, but to start at the start there is the re-introduction of Bo Peep - voiced by Annie Potts. While the character appeared in both Toy Story and Toy Story 2, she was absent in Toy Story 3, which led to plenty of fan speculation regarding her whereabouts. Her return was first teased a few years ago when it was said that she would have a significant part to play in Toy Story 4, and we got confirmation of her return late last month. Now we actually have some real footage, however, featuring her bantering with Tom Hanks' Woody at a carnival.

It's not entirely clear exactly what the main cast of Toy Story 4 is doing at said carnival, but one thing that's driven home is that Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) is in some real trouble. Apparently he has not only been captured by someone who works at the fair, but he has been put up as a top prize at one of the booths. This apparently doesn't sit quite right with the aforementioned Ducky and Bunny, who challenge his presence with some fuzzy abuse.

This is technically the third teaser for Toy Story 4, but it's not yet entirely clear how all of the pieces will fit together. The official synopsis teases that Forky will be playing a significant role in the film, with the other toys showing him the scale of the world via a road trip, but none of the trailers thus far has exactly been "traditional" - giving fans a clear sense of what the movie is going to be about - beyond the fact that it includes a character named Forky and has at least one sequence set in a carnival.

The marketing for Toy Story 4 has been a bit strange thus far, but the folks at Disney do have some time to promote it (not to mention plenty of features to which they can attach new teasers, including Captain Marvel, Dumbo, Penguins, Avengers: Endgame, and Aladdin. While we've yet to see a normal trailer for the 21st Pixar films, it is surely on the way in the next few weeks.

Following up on the ridiculous success of Brad Bird's Incredibles 2 last year - which became the most successful Pixar release ever - Toy Story 4 will be arriving in theaters everywhere on June 21st. Star Wars Production Designer Confirms Tatooine Was Part Of An Upcoming Spin-Off Film

Right now, the future of the Star Wars franchise is a bit unclear. J.J. Abrams' untitled Star Wars: Episode IX has entered production; and Logan's James Mangold has been hired to make an undated Boba Fett film, but nothing is really official beyond that. Sadly, we don't fully know what's going on behind closed doors at Lucasfilm -- but according to production designer Neil Lamont, one of the studio's upcoming-but-stopped projects included a return to the legendary fictional planet Tatooine. Lamont told me,

We were just starting our work on another Star Wars spin-off and yeah. We were actually just making our mark on Tatooine -- which would have been interesting and some other new galaxies. So hopefully, if that comes back, we'll get the chance to be able to do that further.

Neil Lamont's history with the Star Wars franchise dates back to being an assistant on the set of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, and in the past couple years he's served as production designer on both Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Solo: A Star Wars Story. With that most recent title soon coming to home video, I had the opportunity to hop on the phone with him today and talk about his work -- and it was at the end of the interview that discussion turned to the future. Given his experience not only working on Star Wars, but also on Harry Potter and James Bond titles, I asked if there were specific fictional universes or locations he wanted to give his personal touch, and he brought up his almost-got-it moment with Luke and Anakin Skywalker's home planet in a developing spin-off.

There wasn't any elaboration on Neil Lamont's part regarding exactly what was in the works for Tatooine -- but we can certainly speculate. It's possible that there were some abandoned ideas for the desert planet in the upcoming Boba Fett movie... but given the status of things, the stronger bet is that Lamont is referencing the much-discussed Obi-wan Kenobi solo adventure. We've been hearing talk about that potential project for years, with the idea being that it would follow Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor) in the years after the events of Revenge of the Sith. This would specifically place him on Tatooine -- where he stayed so that he could keep an eye on young Luke from a distance. Not much has been officially said about the potential film, but it's believable that there might have been discussions about what we might see from Tatooine.

We'll just have to wait and see if Neil Lamont gets the opportunity to build his vision of arguably the most famous planet in Star Wars -- but much sooner than that fans will be able to revisit his work inside the most famous vehicle in Star Wars: the Millennium Falcon. Solo: A Star Wars Story is scheduled to be available for digital download on September 14th, and physical copy fans will be able to pick up the 4K, Blu-ray or DVD on September 25th.
