The Obi-Wan Movie May Start Filming Way Sooner Than We Thought

Rumors that an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is on the way have persisted even though nothing official has been revealed. While the sheer volume of rumors would seem to put some weight behind the concept, we still had no idea when we were potentially going to see such a thing materialize. Now, it looks like the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie might be arriving relatively soon, as the newest report says the film is looking to start shooting in April of 2019.

Previous rumors had indicated that the project was currently in pre-production and that it would be the first Star Wars movie we got after Star Wars Episode IX, but especially after another rumor claimed Lucasfilm might be taking a breather to consider the future of the franchise, we had no idea when this movie might actually come out. However, the Belfast Telegraph now says that the movie is expected to start production in April of next year. This is the same source that first reported that the film would be using the city's Paint Hall Studio following a visit by George Lucas to the location at the end of 2017.

The news that the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie could be filming in less than a year is certainly an indication that the report that Lucasfilm had decided to pause future spinoff films was inaccurate. Either that, or the studio did put things on hold, but have already decided the way forward.

The other reason that an April 2019 start to production feels early, however, is that it's not clear where Disney might be planning to release it. Filming in the spring of 2019 could mean a release date as early as the summer movie season of 2020. However, Disney just did a pretty significant reshuffling of its release schedule, and it just set Maleficent 2 in the Memorial Day Weekend window that Solo: A Star Wars Story had this year, and previous Star Wars films had been once set to have. While it's possible that the schedule could see another shakeup down the road or that Lucasfilm has decided, following Solo's performance, not to release Star Wars movies that weekend, Disney already has a lot of 2020 scheduled out so there isn't a lot of room in the release calendar, unless Disney wants to wait until December, and bet that James Cameron's long-delayed Avatar 2 will be delayed once again.

Actual production is something Lucasfilm will have a significant problem hiding, which means, if this report is true, we're almost sure to get an official announcement sometime between now and April that this movie is actually happening. At some point, the future of Star Wars will become more than rumors and nebulous projects, but that day isn't here quite yet.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Might Be Introducing An Intriguing Force Power

Most of the main saga Star Wars movies have shown off new ways to harness the Force, like how Luke Skywalker was able to project himself from Ahch-To all the way to Crait in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. If a new rumor is to be believed, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will contribute to the expansion of the Force through something called Force Flash Fights.

It was teased during the Rise of Skywalker panel last week at Star Wars Celebration that new Force powers would be on display in the upcoming movie. Supposedly Force Flash Fights is likely the main power that was being alluded to, although it might be given a different name later on. So what are Force Flash Fights? Basically, as two Force-users are engaged in a lightsaber duel, the environment around them changes.

As Making Star Wars report notes, when Rey and Kylo Ren meet again during The Rise of Skywalker, both are much more powerful since we last saw them in The Last Jedi, which makes sense given that theres a time jump. Whereas before Snoke was responsible for mentally linking the two together, apparently now theyre able to do that on their own. This time, as the two are flighting, theyre still physically in the same location, but Force-wise, the background will change to different places.

And these arent just any random places in a galaxy far, far away, by the way. Theyll be places that weve already visited in previous Star Wars movies, although no specific locations were identified. Still, considering that The Rise of Skywalker is the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga, itd be fitting to look back at where some of the Star Wars franchises biggest events have gone down, even if the characters arent actually there.

As for how Rey and Kylo Ren end up in a Force Flash Fight with one another, it sounds like this could happen after that moment from the teaser trailer when Rey ignites her lightsaber, gets a running start and then leaps over Kylo Rens TIE Fighter as it flies towards her. She damages the ship, Kylo emerges from the wreckage and they begin this trippy battle.

However, its also worth mentioning that other sources that spoke with MSW say that Rey and Kylo Ren will team up against an outside threat. Maybe its Emperor Palpatine, maybe its the Knights of Ren, maybe its someone/something new that still hasnt been revealed or even rumored, but regardless, its possible that if Rey and Kylo do form an alliance later in the story, they might engage in a Force Flash Fight with this threat.

Although this sounds like a cool way to elevate lightsaber fights up a level, given how some fans reacted to Force Projection in The Last Jedi, if Flash Force Fights do indeed factor into The Rise of Skywalker, I suspect that will also be met with controversy. At the very least though, seeing all these different locations flash by as Rey and Kylo Ren have their respective blue and red blades locked in combat should make for quite the visual treat if pulled off effectively.

New Godzilla: King Of The Monsters Video Pokes Fun At Ghidorahs Name

If you thought 2014s Godzilla and 2017s Kong: Skull Island were crazy, Godzilla: King of the Monsters is kicking things up several notches on the chaos scale. This latest MonsterVerse entry is introducing three new monsters (that we know of), including the three-headed King Ghidorah. While Ghidroah is arguably the most dangerous of Godzillas new foes, a new preview for King of the Monsters takes some shots at the beasts unusual name.

T heres no question that King Ghidorah is a towering monstrosity and looking to be the biggest threat the MonsterVerse has introduced yet, but that doesnt take away from the fact that it has a weird name. This Godzilla: King of the Monsters TV spot highlights that when one of the characters asks about its catchy name. Kyle Chandlers Mark Russell doesnt understand it right away and Thomas Middleditchs Sam Coleman notes how the name sounds like Gonorrhea. Theyd better hope that Ghidorah doesnt have enhanced hearing on top of its many other abilities.

Weird name aside, King Ghidorah is shaping up to be the biggest threat in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which is saying a lot given how much destruction weve seen in the footage shown so far. Ghidorah is joined by Rodan and Mothra, though it should be noted that the latter is usually depicted as a benevolent creature in the Toho monster movies from Japan, so perhaps it wont be giving humanity too much trouble. Regardless, in keeping with the monsters numerous appearance in the Toho movies over the decades, King of the Monsters King Ghidorah is described as Godzillas arch-nemesis, so its a good bet that the sequels climactic confrontation will be between these two.

Picking up five years after the events of Godzilla with the entire world now knowing about the existence of the Titans, Godzilla: King of the Monsters sees Monarch crossing paths with all of these monsters as they vie for supremacy and put humanitys very existence at stake. We can at least take comfort knowing that Earth wont be destroyed since Godzilla vs. Kong arrives next year, but there will definitely be mass casualties due to these monsters wreaking havoc, many of which we can likely lay at Kind Ghidorahs feet or wings.

Along with the previously mentioned actors, Godzilla: King of the Monsters main cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Bradley Whitford, Charles Dance, Aisha Hinds, OShea Jackson Jr., David Strathairn and Zhang Ziyi. Each of King Ghidorahs heads is played a different actor: Jason Liles, Alan Maxson and Richard Dorton.

Unlike Wolverine or Iron Man, when it comes to Batman, there is no one actor who everybody thinks of as the Caped Crusader. Six actors have portrayed Batman in live action on the big screen, and depending on what happens with Ben Affleck and Matt Reeves' Batman movie, number seven could be coming soon. There are some names that always come up as potential future superheroes, and one of them is Jon Hamm. The Mad Men actor just has that look that would make him well suited to both Batman and Bruce Wayne. It isn't just fans that would like to see the Don Draper performer don the cowl either. Jon Hamm himself is interested in playing Batman, but only under one condition, as he explained:

It depends on the script, what the story is. I am a huge comic book fan, always have been. I have read comic books since I was nine or younger. And I am pretty knowledgeable about a lot of them. And I like the genre, and I like when they are done well.

Jon Hamm's criteria for playing Batman seems pretty simple: he just wants the story to be good. That's probably a pretty solid rule to follow before signing on to any kind of project. In theory that should go without saying, but because comic book movies don't have a 100% success rate when it comes to quality, it bears mentioning. As Jon Hamm told The Hollywood Reporter, he is a lifelong fan of comic books and comic book adaptations. He noted that he loved Black Panther and that he watched the Legion TV series, so he has a natural affinity for the material. But like any good fan that knows his stuff, he doesn't want to be in something sub-par, he wants things to be done well for him to take part. That starts with a good script.

Now just because he is a comic fan and might be interested depending on the script, that doesn't mean that Jon Hamm strapping on a utility belt is imminent. He said that he has not had any official conversations about playing the Dark Knight. Hypothetically though, if he were approached, he seems keen on the possibility, as he explained:

I'd probably fit the suit. I'd have to work out a lot, which I don't love. But, I am sure there is an interesting version of that being out there. And if they wanted to tap me on the shoulder and ask me to do it: why not?

Jon Hamm sounds like he wouldn't take too much convincing to play Bruce Wayne as long as the script for the film was good, even if taking on the role would mean that he'd have to work out to fit in his Batman costume. So if you're listening, Warner Bros., all you have to do is tap him on the shoulder.

Even though Jon Hamm seems game to play Batman, there first has to be a Batman for him to play. For ages Ben Affleck has been rumored to be leaving the DCEU, and thus would not star in Matt Reeves' Batman movie. That may not be the case and Affleck may stick around, but if he doesn't, there is a job up for grabs. We don't know what that movie will be yet, so it's impossible to say if a Jon Hamm Batman would be right for it, but if the DCEU wanted to stay in the same sort of age range, the two actor's ages are only a year apart. DC is also doing standalone films, as evidenced by Todd Phillips' Joker, so maybe Jon Hamm could play the role in some sort of one-off. Of course, Superman is now also up for grabs, and Jon Hamm would also make a killer Man of Steel.
